Character Description[]

Yorgle is one of three dragons from the 1979 video game Adventure, an adventure game for the Atari 2600 usually cited as the first. (incomplete)

Pros & Cons[]

Pros[]

  • High damage.
  • Longer throw range than other characters (not counting tether-type grabs like Link's Hookshot)
  • Strong grappling and reset game.

Cons[]

  • Slow movement and attacks.
  • Useless neutral attacks.

On-Screen Appearance[]

E.T.: Atari Dragon enters as the player character from the infamous Atari 2600 game E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial in a spaceship, and then transforms back after landing.

Primary Attacks[]

Ground Attacks[]

Basic Attacks[]

  • Neutral Jabs: Atari Dragon extends its neck slightly and chomps at the player. Similarly to Mega Man and Steve, this is only one attack that can be repeated, only it does not extend into its Side Tilt.
  • Dash Attack: Atari Dragon becomes a rainbow ship that slides across the stage. It knocks the opponent back a far distance, but only trips at low percentages.

Tilts[]

  • Side: Atari Dragon shoots two arrows at the player. The attack acts in a similar way to Little Mac's side tilt, but doesn't have as high of a killing possibility.
  • Up: A bat strikes out of Atari Dragon's head, flying up a short distance before going back into its neutral position. This move functions as an anti-air, but only in specific situations.
  • Down: Atari Dragon pops out its head for a short-ranged chomp. Its range is shorter than its Neutral Jab and generally does less damage.

Smashes[]

  • Side: Atari Dragon becomes a palm tree and spins for a short moment.
  • Up: Becomes a boxer viewed from above and punches the player upward. This has an incredibly low chance of resulting in a critical hit, which deals doubled damage, hitstop and knockback (sometimes resulting in a KO)
  • Down: Atari Dragon sends out two flashing magnets, with one to its left and one to its right. The magnets go a moderate distance, but do not have large knockback distance.

Aerials[]

  • N-Air: Atari Dragon extends its neck slightly and chomps at the player. This is an extension of its Neutral Jab, but is not very practical due to its range.
  • F-Air: Atari Dragon displays a flashing magnet to its right. This acts as an air-to-air poke, as the magnet acts similarly to the one in its Down Smash.
  • B-Air: Atari Dragon turns into a helicopter and pokes its back out. The move itself primarily acts as a cross-up, but has higher knockback to create space between the opponent and Atari Dragon.
  • U-Air: Atari Dragon turns into a palm tree and does an upward flip, similar to its Side Smash. Unlike most U-Airs, this move is not very practical for combos due to its slow timing.
  • D-Air: Atari Dragon morphs into a key that strikes downward. This move functions as a strict air-to-ground, and is able to kill at certain percentages (starting at 113%).

Grabs, Throws[]

  • Grab - Atari Dragon folds inward before putting itself forward and reverting back to its original position. The grab has higher range compared to other characters, but not too high; when it successfully connects, the screen flashes for a brief moment before putting the opponent in a hold position.
  • Pummel: Atari Dragon extends its neck slightly and chomps at the player, using the same animation as its Neutral Jab and N-Air.
  • Forward: Atari Dragon turns its mouth into a trumpet, singing a song that puts the opponent to sleep. The move acts similarly to Snake's down throw in execution, but is more like Jigglypuff's Sing in concept.
  • Back: Atari Dragon turns into the Centipede logo and suplexes the opponent on the first section of the centipede.
  • Up: Atari Dragon summons a bat that carries the opponent upward for a small distance, similar to the Boss Galaga item. Upon release, the opponent will revert to a falling position, making the move rather unsafe for the player.
  • Down: Atari Dragon eats the opponent before releasing them upward. The releasing knockback is rather low, and the move cannot kill unless it is followed up.

Special Attacks[]

Neutral B - Saucer Palm[]

Atari Dragon becomes a blue UFO for a moderate amount of time before becoming a bigger, purple colored UFO. The attack generally has high damage potential, with high knockback and damage around 24%, alongside being the second attack involving critical hits, with the other being its Up Smash. To trade for its strengths, the attack starts up rather slow compared to its other Special Attacks, and is rather punishable on shield due to the move's recovery time.

Side B - Dodge' Em[]

Atari Dragon turns into a race car that collides with the opponent, capturing them and dragging them in a counter-clockwise four-way motion. Unlike how it acts in M.U.G.E.N, the move is a command grab instead of a regular hit, securing the opponent instead of hitting them in multiple directions. Once Atari Dragon returns to the ground, it will recoil with the opponent's high knockback, but does not kill until the opponent is at least at 120%. The move deals 35% at average and has a rather fast speed, but lacks range due to its short active time.

Up B - Bat Aid[]

Atari Dragon calls a bat to carry it a far vertical distance. After 4 seconds, the bat will let go, leaving Atari Dragon in a helpless state. The move does not do any damage, but can be cancelled after at most 15 frames in, and after the bat lets go Atari Dragon can change its falling movement by pressing Left or Right. This is Atari Dragon's best recovery option due to its high vertical distance, but its lack of damage and post-action state may make it vulnerable to oncoming attacks.

Down B - 3D Tic-Tac-Toe[]

Atari Dragon becomes three isometric panels with even vertical spacing. The panels will nullify projectiles and store them, with each projectile being a cross. When all three panels are filled, the next time Atari Dragon uses this move, the crosses will flash for a second before it explodes. The move is probably Atari Dragon's way of dealing with projectiles, and alongside this the final phase of the move has short intangibility, making it function as a reversal as well. The panels will reset to their blank states if Atari Dragon is either KO-ed or the final phase of the move has ended.

Snake Codec[]

Snake: Otacon, there's a duck on the battlefield!

Otacon: Snake, that's not a duck. That's Yorgle, better known as the dragon from the Atari 2600 game Adventure.

Snake: It doesn't look like a dragon.

Otacon: It never does. It changes its looks in attacks from various other games on the system, from Asteroids to Yars' Revenge.

Snake: Maybe this requires closer inspection.

Otacon: If that's the case, then be careful! You may never know what form it'll take next!

Trivia[]

  • Some of Atari Dragon's moves, like Dodge' Em, come from games not owned by Atari themselves. Alongside this, Atari Dragon's into is based on the E.T. media franchise, which is owned by Universal.
