"The Rise of Darkness" is the Story Mode of the game "Super Smash Bros. Epic Battle of History". Its plotline is similar to "The Subspace Emissary", but this story is playing on various places of Planet Earth. This mode has also elements of a guessing game, like solving puzzles to unlock a door, making it very different from the last story mode. The focus is to search for friends to save the world from Darkness.
Chapter 1: Midair Stadium[]
The story begins at the midair stadium. The crowd is roaring for the next challengers. Suddenly, a Mario trophy comes to the stage. Mario awakens. On the viewing platforms, Peach & Zelda are looking forward to the upcoming game. Before the battle starts, a Kirby trophy lands on the platform of the stadium. The battle between Mario and Kirby begins. The loser of the battle gets trophified. After the battle, Mario/Kirby is reviving Mario/Kirby by touching the base of the trophy, but dark red clouds from nowhere are overhauling the stadium. Hundreds of Heartlesses and Eliminators led by Darkside appearing on the platform. The first fight begins (Playable characters: Mario, Kirby, Peach, Zelda; Vs. Darkside). Pit, who is looking from Skyworld, is watching the havoc and asks Palutena to help them. Palutena says Yes and aids Pit through this adventure and battle. After Darkside and his minions are defeated, Darkside calls Petey Piranha to defeat the heroes. Petey appears and traps Peach and Zelda in cages (Playable characters: Mario, Kirby, Pit, Palutena; Vs. Petey Piranha). After defeating the plant, the cages are broken, releasing Peach & Zelda. But, Wario appears and trophifies Kirby. So, Mario, Peach, Zelda, Pit & Palutena are following the bad-doers.
Chapter 2: Italy[]
Sicilia: While our heroes are chasing the villains, a portal appears, leading the heroes to our planet. The first thing, that they see of Earth, is the blue sky with the clouds. It looks very similar to their home world. Meanwhile, in a nearby forest in Northern Italy, Yoshi wakes up and realizes that his home forest was invaded by eliminators. But luckily, Link appears and they fight this army together. Mario sees that and tells to Yoshi and Link to join them to search the villains. They nodded and continue their adventure. Suddenly, in the island of Sicilia, they stopped walking when they hear a rumble. It must be the Mount Etna that's going to erupt. When they reach the volcano, they see Zant, Bowser & Ganondorf forming the evil force. Our team of heroes enter the volcano and face off many enemies until they reach the core where a giant cyclops bursts out from the lava. It's Cragma (Playable characters: Mario, Peach, Zelda, Pit, Palutena, Yoshi, Link; Vs. Cragma). After the battle, Sheik and Toon Link appears on stage because they noticed that they saw a team that they could enjoy. Mario & Link agreed while a Meta Knight trophy falling down behind them. Mario revives him and tells that they need his help to find Kirby and to save the world from the raging darkness.
Florence: Their next station on their journey through Italy is Florence. There, our heroes must solve a secret to get to the Florence Cathedral. In the cathedral, Meta Knight found a Dedede brooch and tells that this piece of gold is a secret to anyone. He opened the brooch and found a letter that says that it was a message from King Dedede. It tells that he got the Kirby trophy is in Venice. So, our team is going to Venice where Dedede awaits.
Venice: Dedede notices that a team wants to free Kirby. Meta Knight tells that and faces off Dedede for Kirby. After that, Dedede joins the team and Kirby gets revived. On the way in Venice, the water starts to bubble. An army of Eliminators appears from the water to face off our team of heroes. A fight on the gondolas begins. After that astounding and experienced fight, Bowser appears again and trophifies Peach. Our team is afraid that they have lost a team member again, especially Mario. Later, Luigi and Rosalina come to help Mario and our team to search for the beloved princess of the Mushroom Kingdom. Bowser flies away westward.
Milan: The next destination of their journey is Milan. Meanwhile, in a nearby village, Villager is going to check his mail, as suddenly, Tom Nook ran to him that Milan is in danger. Villager agreed and they ran to Milan where they met our team. Milan is invaded by an army of Heartlesses and Eliminators. After this army is defeated, they make their way to the Milan Cathedral. There, they found another page of Bowser's letter. That says that they were there. They are the cause of the invasion over Milan.
Rome: The last station of their journey through Italy is the capital of Italy, Rome. At their arrival in Rome, they notice Roman soldiers. Villager and Meta Knight thought that the Roman Empire is striking back. The Roman army is led by Julius Caesar revived from Darkness. A battle, Legion vs. Legion, is beginning (Playable characters: Mario, Zelda, Pit, Palutena, Yoshi, Link, Sheik, Toon Link, Meta Knight, Kirby, King Dedede, Luigi, Rosalina & Luma, Villager, Tom Nook; Vs. Julius Caesar). After Caesar is defeated, this battle isn't over yet. In the Colosseum, he crafts a robot that looks like a gladiator. It's Deathmatch (Playable characters: Mario, Zelda, Pit, Palutena, Yoshi, Link, Sheik, Toon Link, Meta Knight, Kirby, King Dedede, Luigi, Rosalina & Luma, Villager, Tom Nook; Vs. Deathmatch). After the robot is defeated, Rome, and Italy, are purified from Darkness. A light portal appears, teleporting to the next world.
Chapter 3: USA[]
New York City: The story begins at the Statue of Liberty. Spiderman, Deadpool and Rocket Raccoon are enjoying the view of New York City. But, they see some robots with a leader. They are about to terrorize the city. Now, they must call help. Wonder Red appears and brings the heroes to the city. First, they are battling the Eliminators, led by the Destructinator (Playable characters: Spiderman, Deadpool, Rocket Raccoon, Wonder Red; Vs. The Destructinator 1st battle). After the battle, the Destructinator left and announced that he will come back. While taking a walk in Central Park, they are ambushed by someting. It was the Lizard, and Spiderman thinks that he is his enemy. He faces off with the Lizard. After the battle, the Lizard disappears. While walking and enjoying the fresh breeze of Central Park, they are founded by Ness and Lucas. They told that they have found something. Those things were trophies from Kat & Duke Nukem. They reveive them and join the team. Later, a giant gorilla appears rushing from a bulding and climbing the Empire State Building. He has a crush on Kat and kidnaps her. Our heroes are following and fighting the big ape to save Kat (Playable characters: Spiderman, Deadpool, Rocket Raccoon, Ness, Lucas, Wonder Red, Duke Nukem; Vs. King Kong). After the ape is defeated, a giant machine appears with someone in it. It was Porky, Ness's neightbour and leader of Pigmasks (Playable characters: Spiderman, Deadpool, Rocket Raccoon, Ness, Lucas, Wonder Red, Duke Nukem, Kat; Vs. Porky Minch). After the machine is defeated, they are travelling further to Cincinnati.
Cincinnati: In Cincinnati, Katniss Everdeen, Chibi-Robo and PaRappa the Rapper take a walk through the city. But, they saw a giant capsule raining white roses. It was President Snow, coming out and announced that this land will be his kingdom. Katniss, Chibi-Robo and PaRappa didn't like it and face off against him with anger (Playable characters: Katniss Everdeen, Chibi-Robo, PaRappa the Rapper; Vs. President Snow). After Snow is defeated, he drops off a Wii Fit Trainer trophy that gets revived from Chibi-Robo. Wii Fit Trainer woke up and saw an archer, a small robot and a dog-like midget.
Chicago: He joined the team and they are going to Chicago, where they met another team that consists of Bart, Homer, Sulley & Mike, Ryu, Chun-Li and Mach Rider. They have a great time out there. They face off enemies that were going to search for treasures in the city until they reach Millenium Park. When they arrived the park, they saw a giant footprint. The heroes thought that a giant monster was out there. They didn't know which thing could be stomped. PaRappa thought it could be the Darkness. For then, they restore the Millenium Park, but Megatron appears to face off against the characters (Playable characters: Spiderman, Deadpool, Rocket Raccoon, Wonder Red, Ness, Lucas, Kat, Duke Nukem, Katniss Everdeen, Chibi-Robo, PaRappa the Rapper, Wii Fit Trainer, Ryu, Chun-Li, Mach Rider, Bart Simpson, Homer Simpson, Sulley & Mike, Optimus Prime; Vs. Megatron). After Megatron is defeated, our team follows Route 66 led by Mach Rider.
Los Angeles: While driving, they got ambushed by a tornado. The heroes were dragged by the storm and landed on a mountain where they saw large, white letters. They are in Hollywood. In the meantime, Timmy Turner and Jimmy Neutron do some experiments in Turner's house, till they are surrounded by Eliminators. But, Hulk Hogan and Michael Jackson came to help the boys. Back to Hollywood. Mickey Mouse, Sora and Bugs Bunny take a walk through the Walk of Fame. They saw some stars, even their own. Mickey was so excited about it, but Wario appears again and trophifies Mickey. Now, Sora and Bugs Bunny follow the bad-doer and they are facing off Wario to save Mickey. After Mickey was freed, Wario joins the team and they met Timmy, Jimmy, Hulk Hogan and Mickael Jackson excited and dirty after they fought the Eliminators. They joined the team while Crocker captures Timmy's fairies to make a wish that he wants to be a man made out of cheese. At Cheese Crocker's appearance, Timmy saw the fairies captured in Crocker's backpack (Playable characters: Mickey Mouse, Sora, Wario, Bugs Bunny, Timmy Turner, Jimmy Neutron, Hulk Hogan, Michael Jackson; Vs. Cheese Crocker). After Cheese crocker is defeated, tonsn of cheese is falling from the sky. They ate all of this cheese that was a reward of the battle, also Timmy's fairies are back to him.
San Francisco: Phoenix Wright, Bill Nye, Tom & Jerry and Sly Cooper are taking a nap near the Golden Gate Bridge. But the repose gets disturbed by an troop of Eliminators. They fought against these robots. Meanwhile, Crazy Dave, Peter Griffin and Stewie Griffin appears on the stage and joined the team. Arrived at Chinatown, they get greeted by the team from LA. Together, they are exploring the city via cable car. While driving the cable car, they solve puzzle to reach the bay to get to Alcatraz. In Alcatraz, they get informations about this prison island. For a long time, prosiners lived there, but today, seagulls and other birds are there.
Seattle: On a night mission, Snake searches for his long-lost device to get on his codec. But he gets ambushed by Heartlesses. Suddenly, Mr. Incredible and Woody & Buzz Lightyear appeared and face off against these dark spirits. The next morning, Snake, Mr. Incredible and Woody & Buzz awoke in Pike Place Market. They going to have breakfast at a nearby cafeteria. Here, they enjoy their breakfast. After breakfast, they saw Eliminators invading the Museum of Flight. There, a great chase over Seattle begins. Unfortunately, they are crashlanding on Woodland Park Zoo. This is the final station of Seattle. There is a quiz about the animals who live in Woodland Park Zoo. After solving the quiz, the level is finished.
Miami: While the DK crew celebrates Donkey Kong's 20th birthday at Jungle Island, their bananas are stolen. That could be King K. Rool who wants to give the Eliminators banana energy. Now they are searching for the Kremling king. Cranky Kong and Chunky Kong got ideas to get that Kremling. They rent a taxi to search for him. While they got their bananas back, they saw Master Hand that was possessed by Darkness. Master Hand gave orders to the villains, like K. Rool, Bowser or Ganondorf. Later, Orange, Wreck-It Ralph and Dr. Facilier appeared and told about the havoc. They joined the team and face off those Eliminators who went bananas.
Atlanta: Wander, Phineas & Ferb, Agent P and Fanboy & ChumChum are exploring Atlanta while two Eliminators appeared that guard the path. They face off and defeated them successfully. While reaching the World of Coca-Cola, they met all TF2 characters, these are Heavy, Scout, Pyro, Demoman, Engineer, Soldier, Sniper, Medic & Spy. Their next adventure is through the Centennial Olympic Park where they are having a good time.
Washington D.C.: Batman & Superman are facing against each other while an evil clone of Regime Superman appears. Now, they team up to fight against the doppelganger of Superman (Playable characters: Batman, Superman; Vs. Regime Superman). After Superman's clone is defeated, Mordecai & Rigby saw how a hero is falling down. They ran towards the man, but the DC heroes don't want to heal that villain. So, Mordecai & Rigby joined Batman & Superman. They went to the Smithsonian where Cole MacGrath and the Cat in the Hat awaits. There, Cole tells that this capitol is invaded by the Shadaloo. While they understood it, they solve puzzles in the museum to get those weapons to beat the Shadaloo. After that, they face off M. Bison and the Shadaloo. After their victory, Bison joins them. and they are going to save the White House from Darkness. Here they are facing off against Heartlesses that invaded the house. After that, they get greeted by Barack Obama.
Chapter 4: Greece[]
Our other team of heroes that went to Italy is still searching for Peach.
Korfu: At the island of Korfu, they saw Peach being dropped off. Mario revived her and everything is better. Meanwhile, Daisy awaits to have a lounge on the beach. But, a large dragon is invading the island of Korfu (Playable characters: Mario, Peach, Zelda, Pit, Palutena, Yoshi, Link, Sheik, Toon Link, Meta Knight, Kirby, King Dedede, Luigi, Rosalina & Luma, Villager, Tom Nook, Daisy; Vs. Smaug). After Smaug is defeated and died, our heroes from the US have arrived per cruiseline ship. They met each other and joined the team. The team is growing and growing. It consists of: Mario, Peach, Zelda, Pit, Palutena, Yoshi, Link, Sheik, Toon Link, Meta Knight, Kirby, King Dedede, Luigi, Rosalina & Luma, Villager, Tom Nook, Daisy, Batman, Superman, Mordecai & Rigby, Cole MacGrath, The Cat in the Hat, M. Bison, Wander, Phineas & Ferb, Agent P, Fanboy & ChumChum, TF2 characters, Annoying Orange, Wreck-It Ralph, Dr. Facilier, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, Cranky Kong, Lanky Kong, Chunky Kong, Tiny Kong, Snake, Mr. Incredible, Woody & Buzz Lightyear, Phoenix Wright, Bill Nye, Tom & Jerry, Sly Cooper, Crazy Dave, Peter Griffin, Stewie Griffin, Mickey Mouse, Sora, Wario, Bugs Bunny, Timmy Turner, Jimmy Neutron, Hulk Hogan, Michael Jackson, Spiderman, Deadpool, Rocket Raccoon, Wonder Red, Ness, Lucas, Kat, Duke Nukem, Katniss Everdeen, Chibi-Robo, PaRappa the Rapper, Wii Fit Trainer, Ryu, Chun-Li, Mach Rider, Bart Simpson, Homer Simpson, Sulley & Mike and Optimus Prime.
Sparta: One sunny morning, Marth, Chrom, Master Chief and Leonidas are greeting the day while Hades appears to overhaul their place. So, they fought against him. But Hades summons the Hydra, a large serpent (Playable characters: Marth, Chrom, Master Chief, Leonidas; Vs. Hydra). Later, Robin and Lucina appeared and slayed the Hydra with their swords. Their journey follows to a nearby forest where a Persian armies are invading Greece. Our heroes are striking back against this army (Playable characters: Marth, Chrom, Master Chief, Leonidas, Robin, Lucina; Vs. Xerxes). After Xerxes left Greece, the heroes follow the path of the gods, but Medusa and Dark Pit are spying on them. Medusa tells Dark Pit to attack, but it failed.
Athens: In a town near Athens, called Ponyville, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie are playing Chess, while Rainbow Dash appears and she tells that their village is under attack. The invaders are Chimera and Gilda the Griffon. They fought against them with success. Following the path, they found a trophified Kratos and a trophified Ike. They revive them and told about their experiences with Chimera and Gilda. Kratos is on a mission to find the Key of Olympus. On their way to Olympus, a thunderstorm is raging. Zekrom appears (Playable characters: Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Derpy Hooves, Kratos, Ike; Vs. Zekrom). While Zekrom is defeated, the storm is over, and the Key of Olympus is dropped.
Olympus: In their final adventure through Greece, they saw Zeus sleeping on top of Olympus. When he woke up, he saw the ponies, Kratos, the Fire Emblem characters, Master Chief and Leonidas. Zeus gets very angry and grows into giant size (Playable characters: Marth, Ike, Robin, Chrom, Lucina, Master Chief, Leonidas, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Applejack, Derpy Hooves, Kratos; Vs. Giant Zeus). After Zeus is defeated, he joins the team. Together, they build the Trojan Horse to scare the Persians for revenge.
Chapter 5: Turkey[]
Istanbul: The Trojan Horse reaches Istanbul, and they get greeted by Shulk, Toon Zelda, Midna & Wolf Link & Marshal.Together, they went to the Hagia Sophia. While they search for treasures in the Hagia Sophia, they get scared as a giant robot with claws appeared (Playable characters: Marth, Ike, Robin, Chrom, Lucina, Master Chief, Leonidas, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Applejack, Derpy Hooves, Kratos, Midna & Wolf Link, Toon Zelda, Shulk, Marshal, Zeus; Vs. Metal Face). After beating Metal Face and getting the treasures to allow to swim through the Bosporus, they reach another continent. It was Asia. There, they met a troop of Eliminators and they face off against them. Their journey through Turkey continues.
Izmir: After leaving Istanbul, they reach the Temple of Ephesos. There, they must reveal a secret to get to the Agora. After finishing the puzzle, the gateway to the Agora is opened. From there, they saw another troop of Eliminators and Persian Soldiers. They face off and defeated the army finally. Later, they went to Izmir Clock Tower. Here, the formula to escape from the Darkness is hidden. After completing the tower, Nariko appears and heard that they had solved the mystery. She joins the team.
Ankara: Our heroes are now standing on the Kizilay Square. Here, they explore the city. Later, at the Anitkabir. Shulk and Marshal found a Dedede brooch and take this with them. Wolf Link gets very curious and searches for more brooches hidden. Entering the Building, they must find the Sarcophagus of Mustafat Atatürk. But, on their way on the Road of Lions, they get ambushed by Eliminators and Heartlesses. They fight them until they arrive at the sarcophagus. There, they must solve a puzzle to teleport to the next world.
Bursa: The final station of the Turkey journey. The heroes climb the mountains of Turkey. They faced off Kargarocs, Eliminators and many other enemies. Later, they are finally on the top of the mountain, but a giant bird is swooping down (Playable characters: Marth, Ike, Robin, Chrom, Lucina, Master Chief, Leonidas, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Applejack, Derpy Hooves, Kratos, Midna & Wolf Link, Toon Zelda, Shulk, Marshal, Zeus, Nariko; Vs. Helmaroc King). After the Helmaroc King is defeated, this level is finished.
Chapter 6: Japan[]
Kyoto: In a nearby village, Naruto and Goku woke up and they notice that Eliminators have invaded their home village. Together, they are fighting them from the village. But, later, Lucario and Garchomp appeared and together, they search for Konata and Haruhi. They are waiting for them at Gion Matsuri. They are enjoy this festival, but suddenly, Haruhi transformed. In truth, Haruhi was Zoroark. Now they fight him, but Zoroark escapes. So, a graet chase begins through the wooden ships. After Zoroark was defeated, he joins them. Together, they went to To-ji to find the real Haruhi. They have to explore 5 stores of the pagoda until they reach the top. On the top, a dragon appears. It was Rayquaza holding a Haruhi trophy (Playable characters: Naruto, Goku, Lucario, Zoroark, Konata, Garchomp; Vs. Rayquaza). After Rayquaza is beaten and Haruhi is freed, they went to the Fushimi Inari-taisha. Here, Fox and Pikachu awaits. Fox tells the heroes that Kyoto was visited by a giant monster. So, they are searching for the offender. It was Godzilla that was looking for a friend. So, our team follows Godzilla on his head. After the journey, the camera zooms into Godzilla carrying the characters. On the Kyoto Tower, Sonic, Mega Man, Pac-Man & Bomberman awaits and join the team.
Wily Convention: While our heroes are visit the Wily Convention, they get attacked by Otaku Man (Playable characters: Naruto, Goku, Lucario, Zoroark, Konata, Garchomp, Haruhi, Godzilla, Fox, Pikachu, Sonic, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Bomberman; Vs. Otaku Man). But after Otaku Man was beaten, Dr. Wily appears and got very angry. He then summons Yellow Devil (Playable characters: Naruto, Goku, Lucario, Zoroark, Konata, Garchomp, Haruhi, Godzilla, Fox, Pikachu, Sonic, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Bomberman; Vs. Yellow Devil). After beating Yellow Devil, Wily joins the team. Meanwhile, Charizard, Squirtle, Ivysaur, Machoke & Kangaskhan are looking for items and berries to prepare for their next battle. While they are searching, they saw a team to join in.
Osaka: Ratchet & Clank, Jak and Daxter, Sweet Tooth, Sackboy and Toro Inoue were at a Psy concert in Osaka. But the concert got ruined as Eliminators are rushing to the concert. Psy and the PS characters are battling them off. After the battle, he must stop this concert for now and they going to visit the castle of Osaka where Olimar, Samus, Greninja, Empoleon and Haxorus awaits to travel to Yokohama to find the treasure of Yokohama.
Yokohama: This level begins as our team travels through Yokohama. They stopped walking at the Landmark Tower of Yokohama. There, our heroes solve a puzzle about Japan. After this puzzle is finished, the level is complete.
Daten City: On a morning in Daten City, Panty woke up while Stocking prepares breakfast for them. Then, the door rings. The team who tells that the world is in danger needs their help. So, they join them. On their way, Medusa, Bowser and Ganondorf tells Scanty & Kneesocks to make a doppelganger of Stocking. So, Demon Stocking and the Demon Sisters appeared and they face off against them, but, Corset also appears to face off against them. After the battle is finished, Corset and the Demon Sisters join the team.
Tokyo: The final station through Japan. While our heroes eat Sushi at a Sushi restaurant, Panty & Stocking try to eat Fugu, but Haruhi and Pikachu rushed to stop eating that. Later, they hear a large stomp from a big monster. They went out and they saw a giant monster coming out from the bay of Tokyo. He's about to terrorize Tokyo (Playable characters: Naruto, Goku, Lucario, Zoroark, Konata, Garchomp, Haruhi, Godzilla, Fox, Pikachu, Sonic, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Bomberman, Charizard, Squirtle, Ivysaur, Machoke, Kangaskhan, Ratchet & Clank, Jak and Daxter, Sweet Tooth, Sackboy, Toro Inoue, Psy, Olimar, Samus, Greninja, Empoleon, Haxorus, Panty & Stocking, Scanty & Kneesocks, Corset; Vs.Destroyah).
